And I guess there's some dumb rule some where saying you can't change doctors now. Jeez. Sorry Trish. Hang in there!

ah-it gets even better! wednesday,i woke with a peak flow of 220! after my neb,i got it up to 280 only! in other words-NOT GOOD! so-back to urgent care. another neb there-got me up to 350. my norm is 450-475. it wasn't so much wheezing ,as shortness of breath-couldn't catch my breath and any activity made it worse. so-off to the ER-the one on the other side of town due to insurance. spent 6 hours there. on full monitoring-had an ekg and chest ct. had iv steroids-which really helped. so my bgs are soaring. my regualr doc is on leave. covering docs never wanna get involved. so i can't even get rapid acting insulin. so i'm playing with my lantus dose to keep me from soaring! so tomorrow,i see my idiot allergist. probably will be a waste of time-but obviously-my asthma is poorly controlled! on advair 500,proventail,atrovent and albuterol nebs, claritin, benadryl and flonase! so-something ain't right! trish

Trish, that sounds like a real lousy way to spend a day. If you ask a doc for fast-acting insulin so you can get your sugars under control, what do they say?!

well-like i said-the covering doc for mine-who's on leave for 2 months-won't get involved. so today,i called the pharm d who was managing my diabetes meds. i was supposed to see her in nov and have an a1c then-but that was about the time i quit caring about my D....so she said she can't order any rapid acting til she sees me. so i'm seeing her monday....UGH!!!!! and my GAD and panic disorder do not help the asthma! i get anxious not being able to breathe and then it's harder to breathe cuz i'm anxious! trish

thanks for the hugs and kind words! saw my allergist. did a breathing test-my lung function is down by 30 % since about 3 weeks ago!so-despite him being anti steroid cuz of my diabetes,he agrees that i need to be on prednisone longer this time! so i'm playing with my lantus dose....went a tad over board-this am -my fasting was 56! so monday,i'll see someone to get rapid acting. did get RAST testing done-it's a blood test and my blood will be tested for kitties, dust mites and dog. hopefully then i can start allergy shots! cuz my kitties ain't going nowhere!!!!!so-i am wiped out physically and emotionally from all this nonsense! trish

Hi Trish,

Long time no 'see'. I'm really sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I have somehow been lucky enough to have avoided asthma, but I know all about those dreaded allergies (oh, and the anxiety and the panic). I had a really bad reaction to antiobiotics last year and, since nothing else was working, I was put on corticosteriods. They are just horrible, aren't they. I think I preferred the painful shot of adrenaline I got in my behind after an anaphylaxis several years ago (although in terms of unpleasantness it would be a toss-up between them and the urinary catheter I also had that night) .

Anyway, I hope you're feeling better soon, and in the absence of being able to do or say anything constructive, I'm sending you a big .

Take care,

got me some novolog to do sliding scale just while i'm on the prednisone! and i also got more pred from my allergist-with 3 refills! guess me having 30% less lung function proved my point to him! after one week on the pred,i am finally feeling better-in terms of the asthma. now as far as the side effects of the pred....BLECH!!!!! swollen feet/legs,higher bgs and increased depression and insomnia.... trish

I think it must be a bad year for asthma, since I'm on prednisone for most of this month (at 16 days now). They also switched me from my Advair 500/50 for Symbicort. We'll see.

I've been between 80mg of pred a day. Finally at 20 now. Starting 10 tomorrow. Getting there...

Also had an ER and UC visit for it. I really scared the folks at UC.

My endo didn't really want me adjusting basal for the higher bgs- bolus only, he said. So I definitely think you need fast acting.
