New drug

I just found out about xolair today. A fellow member on another site is going to start taking this drug soon. She has had a very serious case of asthma for many years and nothing has helped her very much to date. She says that only one person in the UK has used the drug. She may be the second. Elsewhere the drug has been unsuccessful in some instances but has "turned lives around" for other asthma sufferers.

Has anyone here heard of Xolair? If you have used it, did it help?

i checked this med on www.rxlist.com and it indicated that this is for use with people who are non responsive to steroid inhalers, and who have an antibody related to the asthma. The dose is given every 2 or every 4 week, by injection, depending on the antibody titer and the individual's size.

That was considered for me oh-so-briefly.

It's uber, uber expensive- like $1000 a dose or something nuts like that.

i'm seeing my allergist next month. i need to do allergy testing,so i can start up the allergy shots again. problem is-i have to stop antihistamines one week prior to testing. i'm bad enough with the antihistamines-there's no way i could go a week without. so i'm gonna ask about the xolair-we have pretty good insurance. trish

xolair must be new...I sure hope it works for those who need it!

my allergist doesn't use xolair. probs with insurance and a rather high incidence of anaphylaxis.
