Valentine's Day Tips

It may be Valentine's day, but it's not too late to plan something special for that special someone.

Before I begin, I will concede to the cynics that Valentine's Day is indeed just a capitalist venture invented by the folks at Hallmark. And that it may do more harm then good by adding a dollop of stress to the Winter months and some already strained relationships.

However, this does not need to be the case. You don't need to go out and "prove" your love is "true" by buying lavish gifts. There are ways to simply say "I love you" without spending a week's salary. In case you need assistance coming up with an idea, here are some tips.
  • Love Notes - Leave little love notes around the house for your loved one to discover in the course of the day.
  • Be a Poet - Compose a poem that expresses your unique personality. It need not be Shakespeare and a little cheese will go well with your dinner wine.
  • Make a Mix Tape - Remember how great you felt when you received a custom mix tape back in your youth? It meant the world that someone would spend time to make something perfectly designed for you. In the era of iPods and cheap recordable CDs, it's quick to deploy this tip. Hint: Pick lots of love songs!
  • Make a Scrap Book - Create special scrapbook including your favorite photographs, poems from previous Valentine's Days, and keepsakes from special occasions.
  • Gift of Life - No, I'm not suggesting that you have children (although tonight would be a great time to try). If your beloved has a green thumb, get a flowering plant to enjoy around the year. Gifts need not be one hit wonders.
  • Full of Food & Love - Light the candles and prepare your loved one’s favorite meal. You are together because you care about each other. Simply spending time alone in candlelight will be enough.
That's a whole Valentine's Day list that neither bleeds your bank account nor pumps up greeting card stocks.

What are your tips?

We'll probably just spend the evening without computers, tv, other distractions, and just chat and be together. To me that's romantic, just to hang with my best buddy. That's why I married him.

Why not just tell them how much you care about your mate, candle light, a fireplace would not hurt. But communications is some thing that is really needed with many folks these days.

I gave my lady friend a cameo, ear rings and yellow roses. But we spend the evening talking about our lives.
