Exercise here i come!!

As some of you know i got a bike from santa (i'm only 49) lol Well i'm really going to try and up the amount of exercise i do from virtually none to a few hours a week leading up to the spring and summer months.

I can't wait to cycle along the canal (it goes on for miles and miles) i know i have to lead up to it a bit at a time but i am determined that the first new bike i have ever had will get plenty of use, and i will get fit at the same time. Moe

I love cycling Moe! It's my favorite exercise of all time. I just can't wait for the weather to warm up a bit so I can go out and stay out. Goodluck cycling along the canal!

Maureen, get an odometer for your bike

one that measures each trip distance, and still maintains the accumulated miles that you have done each year

my brothers compete with each other, and every Christmas, they have a 'zeroing of the odometer' meeting, so they can compare to see who rode their bike the furthest

they are dedicated bikers, and regularily ride their bikes to work, thru all the seasons of the year (except in heavy snow)

i guess they DID listen to me when i told them they had to exercise and maintain a low-normal weight to avoid the onset of type 2 diabetes :-)

Thank's Shaun. I'd have to go some to get to your level. It's something i never really thought about before, i used to walk for exercise but cycling is much more exciting. Moe

What a great ideal ! You have inspired me to go and get a bike ! I have been wanting to lose weight now for sometime. Not really wanting to join a gym and not having room enough in the house for exercise equipment but have some room for a bike in the garage (we have a small house) so I told my mom this morning and now she wants to get a bike too ! See what you started ?! lol Its a great thing !
Cant wait for spring to come to start riding !

Hi Joanna. That's great if you and your mum get a bike, it's something you can do to-gether and get fit at the same time.

Wish we all lived nearer we could all together lol. Take care. Moe

Hi Moe,
Take it nice and easy for the first few rides, start out by riding approx 15 minutes each day and then increase by a few minutes after the first week. It is quite remarkable how quickly one gets tired, the danger being that you loose interest.

regards Johny
