Stain

I am sanding down a used crib and going to refinish it for my brother and sister-in-law. I have a question about stain, that the guy at Walmart could not answer. Hopefully one of you may know the answer. I was wondering if there was a special stain that I needed to buy and polyurethane for children's furniture. I did get the general MinWax brand, but am saving the receipt in case I need to get something else.

Thats strange...Seems like a pretty 'general' question...I would think if the employee working in the paint dept. doesn't know they could sure ask the manager of that dept.
I would just call back and ask for the manager of the paint dept.
Thats alot of work Kris...but will be worth it in the end when you have a beautiful crib...

Hi Kris,
To the best of my knowledge, polyurethane of any brand should be alright (polyurethane is basically a plastic) and as long as the stain is water based, that will be OK as well.

After staining the wood, use spray clear polyurethane over the stin to seal the wood.

I do wood working all of the time, so ask away,

Jerry
