Happy Hi everyone

I just found this site and am newly registered. I was looking at some of the postings and boy can i relate to many of you. Here's the Readers Digest version of me...I am female, 45, overweight, Diabetic(type 2) and have had anxiety/panic attacks for 11 years. I HATE to sweat so exercising is difficult. I am not very motivated to do it either. When I do exercise it increases my metabolism and that increases my anxiety. Heat and sweating also brings on anxiety attacks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can exercise and it be pleasant? When i was younger I would go to the gym daily for about 2 hours. I loved it. Now not so much. I take Xanax and Buspar for anxiety and have seen 12 therapists over the years. None of which helped. It's chemical. Hope to hear frome someone soon. Thanx!

Hi Gerdi! Welcome to DH. I'm t-2, and I absolutely hate to work out as well. Changes in my eating habits have caused some weight loss, so that's a good thing.
I'm thinking of trying yoga or taichi or something. Have you tried anything like that?

Hi and welcome!

Well Gerdi... Maybe put a fan on you while you exercise? Low Impact exercise? A nice stroll after dinner counts. You don't have to power walk...

Unfortunately if you are looking for weight loss the most effective way to do that is raising your heart rate for 30 minutes plus several days a week...hence sweating... Low impact and weight loss can be done but it does take a longer time to see results. If that is okay with you I say go for it!

Hi Becky I haven't tried taichi but did try yoga. Too big for yoga. Couldn't get off the floor. LOL Taichi looks like a lot of fun. Maybe I'll try it. Thanx for the great idea!

Hi LeAnn We do try to walk after dinner but dinner is usually around 7 or 8 pm and right now it's really dark then. Also I live in Texas where it's hot and humid most of the time so I think outside activities are pretty much out for me. I do swim when our pools are open. That's always fun. Guess I have to stick to the treadmill but it's sooooo boreing. Thanx for answering!

Hi and welcome to DH
Swiming is always good, exercises every muscle in the body.

Welcome to DH...
If nothing else, you can start with arm and leg exercises.....Be diligent with them for a few weeks, then you can stand in one spot and just do steeping in place....
Any kind of exercise is better than none...
Good Luck!

Terri

Swimming is AWESOME exercise! You can rase your heart rate doing laps but you never break a sweat or get hot. The resistance is also wonderful for building muscle. Sounds to me like you found your dream exercise!
