Hello from Diabetes Daily

Hello all!

Glad to see some DD people here!

I was diagnosed six years ago, just before Christmas - can you believe it?! I was constantly getting a certain little health problem, and when I just happened to check this on the interent, it said that it might be due to Diabetes. Went to have bloods tested - first reading was 14! Second one was 21! So no doubts there.

I was kind of happy in a way because it was the one thing that got me dieting. However, I have been slipping recently, and am now suffering from chronic fatigue. My last blood test was 7.4 so my doctor is a bit at a loss (I know it's a bit high, but it's not like I've suddenly shot up). They were supposed to test my thyroid as well, but managed to forget. I think, however, it's not that - I mean, I can lose weight if I try, it's not like it's just piling on despite exercising and dieting.

I miss chocolate, particularly the Lindt. I was happily chomping through some of the 85% cocoa solids one and happened to look at the sugar content. It was STILL hugely high! So I don't treat myself in the way I used to anymore. And yet the more I do without sugar, the worse I seem to become.

How long is this intro supposed to be? Sorry, I think I've waffled on quite a bit. Hello to our experts!

Regards

Mayfly

Hi Mayfly! Glad to see you here! You know, a small bit of dark chocolate is good for you and shouldn't be too horrible on your blood sugars!!!

I suffer from fatigue myself right now....I've decided to blame it on stress and the dreary weather!

"Real" chocolate is an excellent snack. It may have contain carbs, but it should be a reasonable amount. At least it's a 1000x better than Hershey's!

Welcome Mayfly! Your name reminds me of the opening of trout season in May of each year when I was a teen in Virginia. People would line up on the banks of the streams with their fly rods and use the files to catch the trout. May + fly = you. LOL! Glad to have you here!

Welcome!
In the winter it's really hard to keep carbs low. They're so important to keeping warm!

Hello there! How nice to be welcomed so warmly!

Richard, now I'm thinking "Well, at least I can land an old trout"!

The problem with being a chocoholic is that chocolate is not a snack, it's a basic food group. So I can't stop at one or two bits, I have to have the whole bar. And maybe another one after that. And then, since I've had some chocolate, I may as well have some cakes. And biscuits. And some scrummy pudding from M&S. *sigh* I tend to keep warm by eating loads of fat......which isn't helping. I've decide to go back back on the diet, though, so I've had porridge this morning and I've brought some apples for a snack. Which means that when the sandwich lady comes, I will want a hot bacon sandwich. Maybe my tiredness is due to lots of alcohol? I think I may have a problem with that, I'm going to try and have nothing tonight and see if that helps.
