Reuters - The victims of human sacrifice by Mexico's ancient Mayans, who threw children into water-filled caverns, were likely boys and young men not virgin girls as previously believed, archeologists said on Tuesday.

I toured this when I was in Cancun for my honeymoon. (The first half of the trip was pretty rough on me though because to much Tequila seniorita! I chippered up though a little later) It was simply amazing the culture that they had! When we toured it through they had shut down being able to climb to the top of the Kukulkan pyramid about a month prior to our visit. I guess some 85 year old lady tried to climb it and ended up falling down it instead. (1 person had to ruin it for us all!)
The tour guide was amazing! The culture of the Maya's is simply SHOCKING! They seemed to be very violent in their beliefs! They were always sacrificing someone for something. They played this game in the arena with a little ball. The way the sound bounced off the walls was mind blowing! Here's the thing though. The losing team was SACRIFICED! WHAT????

I remember telling Curt if I lived in that community I would be the town tramp and would NEVER play sports! LOL! The tour guide in insisted though that people WANTED to be sacrificed because it was a great honor. I was able to stand at the base of the sacrificial mound. I touched the walls and it sent shivers down my spine, I couldn't even begin to imagine how many violent deaths happened there and the blood that ran down those walls.

If you ever get a chance to visit this place! WOW! It is simply astounding! The pictures we have don't do it justice! I hope one day we can go back to see it again.

the title of this thread says scarified, not sacrificed.
Totally not the same thing! Threw me for a loop.
Interesting article, though. I wonder what made the robot select it?
