well, i'm not surprised at this............. look at how many colds go around in the winter

while my son was 3 and under, he kept catching pneumonia! with asthma!
he was taking a LOT MORE medications that just a cough syrup

he hasn't had another cold since he was 3, and he's had no further reoccurance of the asthma

he has had 'sore throats' and 'coughs' and he has requested meds for these, and although he's almost 14, we buy him 'children's cough syrup'........... don't tell on us :)

Kate great idea to buy your son children's cough medicine as its likely to have many fewer additives and sugar free is usually available.

My kids haven't used much cough medicine but have used a lot of Karvol which is a decongestant which you drop on their pillow at night and helps to keep them breathing easily.

Karvol? Never heard of it. I'm on the other side of the pond. Can you tell me more?

Karvol is made by Crookes Healthcare Ltd in Nottingham, UK.

It contains levomenthol, Thymol, chlorbutol, terpineol, pumilio pine oil and pine oil sylvestris. I don't know what most of those ingredients do but that's what is in it.

If your child has a cold etc then putting drops on a handkerchief and inhaling it will clear their nose. I put it on the kids pillow when they have a cold and they then tend to sleep ok. It's nice to find something that works that they don't have to swallow!
