interesting comments in the article

however, it doesn't mention that these rules apply until the child is 3 years old and unlikely to put things in their mouth

putting items into their mouth is one of the ways that babys 'learn' about the object at hand, and they tend to stop doing this around 3 yrs of age

of course, know your own baby is the safest rule!

Mothercare used to sell (they may still do) an item called a "choke tester" which was basically a small cylinder - the idea was that if an object fitted into it then it was small enough that a small child could choke on it. I was constantly surprised that items I thought would be OK could fit into it, I figured that it was a good check if I was unsure - better safe than sorry.
