the first steps i took
Before I quit smoking, I jumbled up my routines. A lot of smoking is the pattern and triggers.
I postponed my first cigarette from first thing when my eyes opened to an hour after I woke. I quit smoking in the house. I postponed the after meal cigarette. I hung around places that were 100% non smoking so that it would be as inconvenient as possible.
The hardest one was not smoking in the car. That was the last to go.
Mind you, I wasn't cutting back. Just jumbling and disorganizing it.
I was already on Wellbutrin ( I heart my wellbutrin!) and also did the patch.
I sneaked a half cigarette a few times the first week, but that was it.
About 4 weeks after quitting I took a two week vacation to Mexico, which further jumbled it all up. While in Mexico I didn't miss it a bit!
It's now over 8 years. And I still want one sometimes. I've told myself that if I ever come down with a quick terminal illness I'll give myself permission to start again, but only if I can afford it. LOL
I think the jumbling of the routines was an immense help and I highly recommend it.
