The research is part of the long-running Whitehall II study, which has been following 10,308 London-based civil servants since 1985.

Very interesting article, thanks! I had a lot of trouble with my diabetes after 34 years of teaching but my age was only 57 at that time. I was stressed because my performance in the classroom was below par for me and yet I felt guilty about retiring since I had intended to work 5 more years. I had to retire and then I was stressed about our financial situation. The reirement incentive was so good that we were able to pay off all our debts. The stress was totally gone! New meds and insulins solved my diabetes problems a few years later. Now I am just a retired, laid back, easy going old fool without a worry! Good life, good health. I wonder how long it will last???
